Studio Art

If you are interested in a studio art major, you will focus on learning the craft of fine art such as drawing, painting, sculpting, or photography. The next step will be to master the art of expression and communication of your ideas through that medium. Your college career is only the beginning of a lifelong process of being an artist. Because it may take many years to develop a career as a successful artist, you may initially seek ways of earning a living other than from sales of your personal work.

The studio art program provides you with a foundation in studio techniques and concept development from which you can build a career as a practicing artist or enter an art-related field. Studio courses are complemented by the study of art history and a strong co-curricular program that includes an active exhibition season and internship opportunities. With our location in Washington, DC, you will have many opportunities to visit world renowned museums and galleries that are close to campus and to develop your professional portfolio. In addition to the skills and knowledge gained through your Studio Art courses, you may want to add an additional major in education or business.
